Diet for Growing Children
Children need food to support the high cellular activity in their bodies. Their growth patterns vary with their age and it is crucial that they get enough and the correct type of nutrition tosupport their growth. Muscular and skeletal development takes place at a rapid rate and so does development of their mental faculties.
Vitamins and minerals must be supplemented adequately. Calcium and iron requirements are relatively greater during early childhood. Deficiency of calcium can affect the bones of growingchildren. Foods rich in calcium such as milk and milk products, whole grains, green leafyvegetable and fish should be included in the diet of children.
Childhood obesity is also on the rise and so is consumption of fast foods and adoption of inactive lifestyles. The growth period in a child’s life never comes back and so it is very important that they eat right.
