Relieve Stress Through Your 5 Senses
Stress is inevitable, and yet stress is controllable. Stress can create a havoc in your life, if you don’t get better of it at the right time. Each one of us has the capacity to control and manage stress, however, very few of us know about it. In an instant the effects can be reduced, if we learn to master the art of Stress Relief.
Identifying when stress sets in our system and starts its menacing work is the first step. Next is to recognize, how our body responds to it. Then, comes our counter attack, which may be developed and perfected with practice. All of us, have our unique personalities and traits, owing to which different situations affect us differently. It is therefore, important to recognize, that to deal with stress we all have to develop our personalized plan of action.
There are too many relaxation methods, we may try. Opting for those which work the best for us is the key to calming those nerves. When you do have a few of those effective techniques, tried and tested, you have to pick choose the best from the lot, that are practical to be implemented at any given time and any given place. For instance, you cannot out of blue start doing a yoga at a presentation meeting in front of your board members at office, right?
So the key is to coin those methods of tackling stress which may be used practically anywhere, without attracting to much of attention from people around you. This can be done by using our five senses to focus on things that make us feel better.
The first to come in mind and is probably the most commonly opted solution- to give pleasure to our taste buds. Having a hot cup of tea/coffee, or a chilled glass of water. Having a small piece of chocolate is also good enough to distract you for a while and let you breathe. However, binge eating is not a solution.
Aroma-therapy is also considered a very good way to deal with stressful situations. Scents and fragrances have a calming effect on you. So at work places, people work better when the ambiance smells good. You may learn about different fragrances and their effect on our particular emotions. For instance, lavender is a calming one whereas for cheerful environs try eucalyptus or spearmint.
To some people visuals can provide the much respite. They are stimulated by what they see. If you are one such kind, then try the visual therapy. Look around, observe all things and colors. Focus on the sight that seems joyous. If you can find anything soothing to look at outside, close your eyes and imagine of positive visuals that restore your peace.
And lastly, music can be a great stress buster. For some it is the subtle sounds in nature like the chirping of birds, bristling leaves, the gushing of water or even giggles and laughter around. For some, two minutes of trance music can help break away from stress, but most often it is the slow and soft tones that help the majority. However, you may not always be in a position to put on your headphones, in that case humming a favorite song too may help you relax.
