Navratri special: How to fast the healthy way!

Navratri is round the corner and people are busy making preparations to welcome Maa Durga in her different forms.  Navratri is celebrated for 9 days and people observe fast for these days. Fasting is a tradition that has been in practice since ages for religious purposes and sometimes as a part of weight loss process. As fasting is followed to clean, detoxify and resting bodies, one should never compromise ones health during fasting.

Some ways to healthy fasting this navratri:

It is a well known fact and it is important to consider your health first before going on for a fast. People who suffer from diabetes and GERD, pregnant women and children must avoid fasting for their own benefit.

2. Don’t starve yourself:

Do not inexact fasting for starving. Some people rely only on water and skip meals.Just remember that your body requires considerate amount of vitamins, minerals, protein etc. So do not ever starve your body from these, otherwise it will cause anxiety, fatigue, headaches and acidity problems.

Now a days, navratri fasting is not like the way it used to be. With so many packed and oily foods available during this time, it feels like a feast. But avoid consuming these oily items to much extent as it can make you feel dizzy and tired. Eat according to the capacity of your stomach and don’t let the weighing scales tip to the wrong side.

4. Drink plenty of liquids:

Drinking lots of water as compared to non fasting days is necessary. Not only it keeps you healthy but it helps to run body functions in a healthy way. Drinking Fresh fruit juices and milk is also beneficial for your health. These habits are helpful when you are fasting and it will clean your toxins and helps to maintain a perfect smooth liquid flow.

Instead of relying on the canned goods, eat fresh fruits and vegetables. Tomatoes and cucumber should be included in your navratri fast list. Eating fruits with yogurt and milk will keep you full and controls unnecessary cravings. Consume fruits every two hours to avoid acidity.

Healthy fasting is important as it will help to keep body and mind healthy. Fasting is indeed a denial of the emotional cravings of the mind and the physical needs of the body. Try to follow a good diet plan for navratri fast and prevent yourself from falling prey to uninvited health problems.
