How to Stop Food Cravings

Food cravings that we can’t stop ourselves from indulging in, can often start a vicious cycle of unhealthy eating and poor eating habits. However much these craving seem to be unbearable, they are not truly uncontrollable. There are ways you can fight them off, a few of which are listed below:

1. Distract Yourself:

The best workable solution is to focus on something other than the delicious pastries and the fries you desire to eat. It is observed that most hunger cravings last for about 10 minutes. If you can let those 10 crucial minutes pass by, it is gone. So when the urge arises just pick up your smart-phone and start playing a game, or indulge in some selfie time. Or hit youtube and watch a few funny videos. When you are over, the craving too would have flown off.

2. Let Go of the Stress:

Stress is a major trigger to food cravings. You must have noted that at times of stress or depression, to control our overpowering emotions and thoughts we end up eating. So managing our stress levels will automatically help in reducing the cravings.

3. Power Nap:

Food cravings often arise due to mental and physical exertion. When we are out of energy and are tired, instead of giving in to the urge and indulging in some unhealthy eating, a power nap might re-energize you better.

 4. Go Nuts:

For a quick fix, you could just drink a glass of water and then munch on a fistful of nuts like walnuts, almonds, peanuts etc. Yes do have a high calorie count but are healthy. Also they are proven to dampen your cravings as well as appetite and so you will be able to balance the calories in the later part of the day.

 5. Alter Your Diet:

Bland food each day will make your life so dull, that you obviously will start looking out for some respite. This looking out will soon turn into constant cravings and you will give in to the urge. However, altering your diet every now and then will go a long way in reducing such cravings, as you’ll have variety on your plate.

6. Adding Pro-biotics in Daily Diet:

Good bacteria fights bad bacteria. It is therefore recommended to all to make fresh yogurt or other pro-biotic supplements a part of daily diet. These help in reducing negative bacteria from infesting the gut and demanding for more unhealthy food, which at the first place gives rise to food cravings. Also these supplements strengthen the immune system, promote mental health and improves digestion.
